SeNa Hwang expresses emotions of loss and anxiety through a symbolic figure—a child with empty eyes. The vacant pupils and sharp whites of the eyes imply complex inner emotions and the possibilities that lie beyond. To articulate and clearly convey these feelings, the artist employs the simple contrast of black and white through the medium of charcoal. The process of drawing and smudging charcoal lines repeatedly resembles the human journey of experiencing wounds, healing, and self-discovery. The work begins as an outlet for suppressed emotions and gradually expands into an exploration of self-understanding and acceptance. The light and shadow within SeNa Hwang's compositions transcend mere visual elements, offering an experience of self-awareness and deep introspection. This reflects the artist's attitude of caring for and healing oneself through affection for others. Her works convey more than visual beauty, inviting viewers to share in the journey of self-discovery and growth amid loss and anxiety.


Ryan Lee is based in New York and has held exhibitions in Chicago, Valencia, and Sacramento. The artist's work statically presents everyday spaces and flat, banal scenes. Scenes containing still life that highlight the absence of humans capture an unclear, open story as if someone has just passed by or may be approaching. It is full of the ambiguity of not knowing when and what will happen, and the production is cropped from a third perspective as if you are watching through CCTV. The work leads us to deeply observe familiar things, adds imagination and psychological anxiety, and, unlike the reproduction of everyday life, it is no longer distant from the ordinary.

Lee Bae focuses on the expressive potential of charcoal as a medium. Over the course of three decades, Lee has dedicated himself to creating a diverse range of iterations of Korean painting through his use of charcoal and abstract forms that are self-sufficient and rich in spiritual and energetic qualities. By exploring immanent notions such as yielding, respiring, and circulation, which are embodied by charcoal as a material, Lee's work resonates with themes of life and death, absence and presence, light and shadow, form, and emptiness. Lee's oeuvre spans a wide range of mediums and forms, from drawings to canvas-based works, as well as installations, with each new work serving to expand upon his unique vision and approach. Lee’s works have been featured at museums and institutions worldwide including: Phi Foundation, Montreal, Canada; Indang Museum, Daegu; Wilmotte Foundation, Venice; Fondation Maeght, Saint-Paul de Vence; Musée des Beaux-Arts, Vannes; and Musée Guimet, Paris. Hiroshi Nagai (Japanese: 永井博, born December 22, 1947) is a Japanese graphic designer and illustrator, known for his cover designs of city pop albums in the 1980s, which established the recognizable visual aesthetic associated with the loosely defined music genre

JEJn usually attempts to depict incomplete human nature through paintings. People today reject their underlying sentiments of fear, incompleteness, and weakness to naturally avoid them. However, the fragmentary phenomena that result from these emotions are also believed to be part of human nature, and the artist interprets and conveys these inconvenience things through his individual sense of humour and cartooning technique. He asks the audience what would happen if the heaviness and hardness of the facts that people are confronting were presented to them as a hilarious black comedy. 

Goyona Jung is interested in the contemporary demand for exposure on social networks and image formation in human relationships via the Internet. She attempted to collaborate with media and painting after graduating from Hongik University with a degree in Painting. She worked in Korea as “Live Cam Painting”, which offers not only personal daily memories but also other people's daily lives in real time with the audience, and she has expanded her activities abroad to include a number of exhibitions. Through her works, the artist conveys a message about the issues of modern society and raises questions about the gap between modern people's loneliness and their edited daily lives.

Jean-Michel Othoniel, a prominent contemporary French artist, is renowned for his works spanning various mediums including installation, photography, and sculpture. Drawing continuous inspiration from diverse encounters and cultural experiences since the late 1980s, he blends these influences with his personal experiences. Othoniel is particularly acclaimed for his unique approach using glass as his primary material, employing a spectrum of colors, sizes, transparency, and shimmer to explore themes of human existence, concepts, and the essence of life. His luminous glass beads, coexisting with imperfections from the handcrafting process, reflect the fragile nature of glass, symbolizing hope for all to overcome life's challenges and pain.

Othoniel gained international recognition as an invited artist at the 9th Documenta in Kassel in 1992 and furthered his reputation with a major project commemorating the centenary of the Paris Metro in 2000. His recent achievements include permanent inclusion of his painting series by the Louvre in 2019 and receiving France's highest honor, the Légion d’honneur, for his contribution to cultural development. His works are housed in numerous renowned collections such as the Centre Pompidou, Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain, and the Louvre Museum Paris; Museum of Modern Art and New York Public Library, New York; Boghossian Foundation, Brussels; Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul; Budi Tek-Yuz Museum, Shanghai; and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice.

He focuses on the instinctive five senses that can be felt in screens, spaces, and objects that encourage erotic imagination. While visualizing the ‘desire for the unreachable’ in two-dimensional or three-dimensional works, he is also exploring the tactile sensations that can reach it. By recording and re-sensing the body in three-dimensional and flat surfaces, he is attempting to explore the body that has been sensed and the body that is being eroded by the desire to be sensed.

The artist mixes representations of the human body from the past to the present and places them in a contemporary context. The story of the inevitable relationship between wounding and healing is told in a way that remains ambiguous due to the dual representation of the image.

Eun-Ha Paek is a Seoul-born artist who earned her BFA in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, she has been actively engaged in the fields of animation and visual arts. Her work has been showcased at prestigious venues, including the Guggenheim Museum and the Sundance Film Festival, gaining international recognition. Paek's animated films have captivated audiences with their sensory expression and unique narratives, earning praise in media outlets such as The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and G4 Tech TV.

In her work, Paek explores the intersection of humor, grief, and hope, creating pieces that evoke deep emotional resonance. She dismantles the boundaries between the familiar and the strange, using everyday moments to express fundamental human emotions. Paek has also participated in numerous residencies, including at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Sundaymorning@ekwc, and Center for Contemporary Ceramics, where she continues to push creative boundaries across various mediums.

Wonmi Seo expresses anxiety and trauma based on autobiographical experiences, societal experiences, and psychological landscapes through the language of painting. She graduated from Sungkyunkwan University and currently resides in Seoul, where she engages with audiences through various exhibitions of her work. The artist combines and deconstructs common materials and symbols, concealing and reinterpreting the ordinary. With this process, her works represent the unrestrained desires of humans today, a collection of characters with shattered and chaotic lifestyles, and the trauma linked with death in Korean history. She believes that viewers of her works will experience the separation of subject and object of the self and will be able to focus on the works and project themselves into them.

Yerin Jang has expressed her inner self through girl in the painting. She has faced herself as a being who is a mixture of memories, emotions, and expectations, and has expressed the psychological opposites that exist within her as an intersection of light and darkness, truth and lies, and beauty and anxiety. The young girl who appears in the new works can be said to symbolize the human being in the beginning, a part of pure nature embracing Mother Nature's providence. As a field of constantly changing energy, the essence of nature is the coexistence of vitality and destructive power. The vitality and destructive power of nature repeatedly circulate as starting and ending points for each other, and although contradictory, they become mutual elements of coexistence rather than opposition. Her new works further expands her previous works in that it explores the duality in the larger scale and humans as a part of nature.

Im Jaehyoung collects images of personal and social loss and explores them in various ways, linking the concept of 'disappearance' with the act of painting. Through his paintings, he creates a unique visual distance, addressing the psychological and ethical distances associated with absence.

b. 1980, Montalban, Philippines

At the heart of Rodel Tapaya’s work is his ongoing amalgamation of folk narrative and contemporary reality within the framework of memory and history. Utilizing a range of media - from large acrylic on canvasses to the exploration of under-glass painting, traditional crafts, diorama, and drawing - Tapaya filters his observations of the world through folktales and pre-colonial historical research,  creating whimsical montages of his characters.

Rodel Tapaya was awarded the coveted Top Prize in the Nokia Art Awards, which allowed him to pursue intensive drawing and painting courses at Parsons School of Design in New York and the University of Helsinki in Finland. In 2011, he won a landmark achievement for a Filipino artist by winning the Signature Art Prize given by the Asia-Pacific Breweries Foundation and the Singapore Art Museum. He was also among the Thirteen Artists Awardee of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2012. 

Toshiyuki Shibakawa developed an installation of "Excavation site 2000 years later" and recently produced (fossil) type artifacts excavated from there. They not only exhibit individual works but also exhibit various things (Archaeo- logical materials, works of art, antiques, relics, goods, etc.) in collaboration. They hold exhibitions and projects that focus on the region and place such as museums in Japan and overseas, historical buildings and shopping streets. At the same time, they hold workshops for a wide range of people, and continue their activities to reexamine the existence of things and contemporary problems.

Ku, Ja-Young(1969) studied B.F.A and M.F.A Painting at Seoul National University and received MFA, New Forms at Pratt Institute in NY, USA. The artist has worked as a visiting artist at Brigham Young University in Utah in 2001, Afterward being at Art Omi International Artist’s Residency in Omi, New York in 2001, by establishing himself as an international artist. Ku was invited to numerous solo exhibitions and group exhibitions at prominent art museums and galleries in the world, including Witworth Art Gallery, Manchester, England; Arts Center Nabi, Korea; Carrillo Gil Museum, Mexico
City, Mexico and Krakow Triennial Print Exhibition, Krakow, Poland.

Salvo was an Italian Conceptual artist that transitioned from producing austere sculptures to painting richly colored depictions of the Italian countryside. Born Salvatore Mangione on May 22, 1947 in Leonforte, Italy, he became associated with artists of the Arte Povera movement during the late 1960s, meeting Alighiero Boetti, Mario Merz, Gilberto Zorio, and Guiseppe Penone, while living in Turin. Originally achieving recognition for his text-based works—which consisted of his name or a tombstone for himself—Salvo began painting in 1973. Characterized by simplified forms reminiscent of the early Modern avant-garde. These dream-like scenes like are reminiscent of the Italian Metaphysical painter Giorgio de Chirico. In 1977, the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany gave the artist his first retrospective. He died in Turin, Italy on September 12, 2015 at the age of 68.

His installations often take the form of stages or rooms for sharing meals, cooking, reading or playing music; architecture or structures for living and socializing are a core element in his work.
