Seoul, South Korea, b. 1981

Based on an interest in 'how a wishing heart manifests in daily life,' Seokwoo Chung visualizes the energy emitted when a being strives toward something. He is fascinated by the flow of consciousness formed from cause and effect, and by the culture of wishes permeating the mundane. Drawing inspiration from the fundamental cultures of various religions, his current work extends the realm of the canvas by basing it on painting and incorporating installations in space. He implements a device that amplifies the characteristics of each, by going through various processes with painting works that correspond to the nature of specific spaces or places.

Project 'Habitat'

Since 2018, the "Habitat" project has explored the presentation of flat paintings and their extension into space. It applies the connection and method between the current work and life in a singular space to reposition paintings in new surroundings, attempting to expand the realm of consciousness. The project integrates the core of flat paintings with the surrounding living area and elements that influence them into the exhibition layout, creating a cohesive and expanded artistic expression.

Eastern Edition x Artue Collaboration

A collaboration between Eastern Edition, which interprets the intrinsic aesthetics of Korea through a contemporary lens, and Artue, an online art platform driving the digital transition of the art industry. The collaboration took place in both the first and third showrooms of Eastern Edition, with Artue meticulously selecting works by Lee Ufan, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Kim Yong-Ik, Seungwon Yang, LeeEu, Im Jaehyoung, Seokwoo Chung, and Jonghwan Jin. This curation ensures contemporary artworks harmoniously blend with the sophisticated monochromatic spaces, enhancing their natural elegance.
