Jinhyung Lee begins with images gathered from the internet, books, and everyday life, yet sets aside their content and narrative to focus instead on the conditions of perception. Nuances of color, trembling contours, density, and texture do not seek to explain the image, but reveal the state that lingers in the act of seeing. In his work, the image is not an object of representation; it exists as a residue of sensation—stripped of meaning and transformed into the materiality of painting.
