Suyeon Kim(b.1986) started working in illustrated bird and plant guide books, encyclopedias, and obscene picture books. She collects the images and makes prints to build three-dimensional objects. These three-dimensional objects are both drawings and objects at the same time. The building method is not fixed as she changes it depending on the images. The recent work is based on a Chunhwa(春畵, literally "spring pictures"). She started with the question: what would I paint if I were a Chunhwa painter? By using sculptures reminding us of classical beauty and flower arrangements, the artist attempts to portray a great fondness existing between lovers who also seek momentary pleasure. The final image contains different perspectives, directions of light, and traces left from the original images, implying that every object in the final image once existed in a different time and space.

Established in 2007, GALLERY2 has introduced diverse Korean contemporary art in many genres. GALLERY2 puts importance on solid relationships and the partnership between the gallery and artists, and works together to find ways to continue artists’ creative practice. Above of all, GALLERY2 believes that its role is to find commercial possibilities for valuable artwork and to help the art scene in Korea maintain its diverse spectrum. GALLERY2 currently has two spaces. GALLERY2 in Pyeongchang-dong presents the current work of artists in any age and genre, mainly through solo exhibitions. GALLERY2 JOONGSUN NONGWON in Nature on Jeju Island shows major established artists in Korea. Each space has a different purpose with an intent to introduce various artwork within its category. GALLERY2 builds balanced partnerships between the gallery and artists rather than focusing on short the term or on a current trend. This encourages positive stimulation for the gallery and artists, and actualizes its credo through its exhibitions. GALLERY2 positively accepts change, keeps an ongoing partnership with artists, and attempts to engage with more artists.
