Abstract images and forms are arranged within the picture plane, and the work develops through a process of creating new combinations between them. Accidental traces and spontaneous stains created by the spreading of paint become important elements of the image, and when these marks become visually dominant, geometric forms and structural elements are introduced to balance the composition. The image is constructed through the relationship between accidental marks and structurally drawn forms, and these two elements either collide or come into balance, forming a single image. The work is gradually adjusted and completed through this process.

The abstract paintings of Hyunjung Park show the process of a response to the new visual world we experience in the twenty-first century. The artist, who majored in Fine Art at Hongik University, has a long history of collecting images of minerals, geological formations, and textures. Since the attitude of collecting and consuming images online influences contemporary art, she is continuously asking concerns about the process of creating arts and she is using graphic technologies to construct the overall layer of her works. By using geometric colour schemes and disciplined brushstrokes, Hyunjung Park creates a new painting universe in which individual objects achieve a tight equilibrium through tension.
