Sanggyun Lee maintained an interest in the image of civil buildings through field research and transformed these three-dimensional architectures or places on the canvas. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology in 2017 and earned a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the graduate institution. When he was a child, his father worked in the civil engineering field, hence he is said to be searching for a connection to his works and father. Images of structures that emerge in work are abstracted by reducing them to a certain structural framework. Among the spaces where urbanisation is desired by humans, the desire to acquire subjectivity and spatiality captures the immobility of civil construction sites as an observer monitoring the process. He also applies on-site tools such as Hera, plastering knife, and ink rope to paintings with a construction mindset.
