Todam
b. 1994 · Gochang
Todam assembles fragments of memory to sculpt new afterimages. By presenting familiar subjects in their distorted, recollected forms, he renders the recognizable strange. His works hovering between warmth and unease add a subtle charge to each viewer's personal memories, opening space to reimagine the subjects that live within them. What appears at first glance to be roughly made is, in fact, the product of meticulous sketching and dozens of simulations. These deliberately planned imperfections carry a force strong enough to displace the clear, universally recognized image of the original.
