Park Seo-Bo was a pivotal figure in Korean contemporary art and a founding member of the Dansaekhwa movement, which emerged in post-war Korea in the early 1970s and has since gained international recognition. His signature series, 'Ecriture,' began in the late 1960s through the repetition of pencil lines drawn over wet monochromatic surfaces. Over time, he expanded this language by incorporating hanji (traditional Korean paper) and color, creating works through layered actions of pasting, scraping, scratching, and rubbing — a meditative pursuit of emptiness through reduction. Park's work has been exhibited at major institutions worldwide, including the Venice Biennale, Tate Liverpool, Brooklyn Museum, and Samsung Museum of Art. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, M+, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea.
