Based in Seoul, Jo Jae's fundamental artistic interest is a space, where human beings create, dwell in, and sometimes demolish. A space itself stands for a people who occupied it and the occupants necessarily leaves traces of themselves. And the trail sometimes becomes an important clue and stimulates intense curiosity. Empowered by this curiosity, what she does is writing a novel with images with a few clues left behind. She takes pictures, make installations, and even creates design, but there is no difference among those acts. Photographs are inevitably the result of flat printing of tangible objects, which deliver an ethereal topic. In this loose integration, the relationship between images and stories leaves room for imagination, so photographic media is the most preferred ones so far.
